Help erase the stigma of Mental Health. Forever Fit is once again attending the Ride Don’t Hide community bike ride hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association to raise awareness and help break the stigma surrounding mental health. Shoppers Drugmart and The Cowichan Valley MentalHealth Association is hosting this fun, family event on June 21st, 2015.
This will be the 2nd year for the Forever Fit Team. No competition here, just a fun day for all fitness levels. We get a free T shirt, good food and a goody bag. Last year was a lot of fun, let’s double the team this year : )
By now most of you know of Clara Hughes. If not, she is a six-time Olympic medalist in cycling and speed skating; she’s the only athlete in history to win multiple medals in both Summer and Winter Games. She is also a spokesperson for Mental Health. Recently, Clara’s Big Ride for Bell Let’s Talk was aired on tv. She completed a 110-day national bicycle tour through every province and territory, from Toronto to Ottawa. As part of Clara’s Big Ride, Clara Hughes covered 12,000 km and visit 95 communities along the way. Clara’s Big Ride was to help grow awareness, acceptance, and action to create a stigma-free Canada.
Clara’s Big Ride was a way of reaching into communities large and small in every province and territory, to encourage all Canadians to be part of the conversation about mental health and help end the stigma around mental illness.
Ride Don’t Hide is our chance to speak out and tell the world that there is no stigma associated with mental illness. Here are the event details. I have registered a Forever Fit Team. If you would like to join me, you can register at www.ridedonthide.com The user name is Forever Fit, I’m not sure if you need my password, if you do, let me know : )
